About
Rooted in every detail
A Cambridge-based landscape design practice dedicated to ecological restoration and native planting.
One Tree Good Day was founded in 2025 by Eva Gildea, a landscape architect trained at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. The practice grew out of a simple conviction: that a well-made landscape should give more than it takes — building soil, holding water, and welcoming the birds and pollinators that belong to a place.
We work closely with each site and each client, reading the existing ecology — light, soil, slope, and water — before drawing a single line. Our designs favor native and climate-adapted plants, layered for resilience and for beauty across every season.
From a first site walk through to planting and long-term stewardship, we stay involved, so the landscape can establish well and grow into itself over time.
Services
What we do
Landscape Design
Site-specific design for residential and small institutional landscapes, from concept through planting plan.
Native Planting Design
Layered, season-spanning plant communities built from native and climate-adapted species.
Ecological Restoration
Re-establishing healthy soil, hydrology, and habitat on disturbed or degraded ground.
Site & Soil Analysis
Reading light, slope, drainage, and soil health to ground every design decision in the site itself.
Planting & Installation
Sourcing quality native stock and overseeing installation so the design is realized as drawn.
Stewardship
Seasonal care and editing through the establishment years, until the planting can carry itself.
Process
How we work
Discovery
We walk the site together, study its soil, light, water, and existing plants, and listen for how you want to live in the landscape.
Design
We translate the site reading into a planting and layout plan — drawn, phased, and refined with you until it feels right.
Realisation
We source native plants and materials and oversee installation, so the work on the ground matches the work on paper.
Stewardship
We stay on through the establishment years, tending and editing the planting as it settles into a self-sustaining whole.
